First of all, I would like to say congratulations to the Hong Kong athletes! I am so very proud of Hong Kong because we have really stepped it up this year. I heard that we got 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medal! In the sports industry, a sport that I enjoy the most is swimming. So after hearing that Hong Kong had won TWO silver medals in swimming, I was over the moon!
Besides talking about Hong Kong participants, a rather meaningful gymnast from Germany was given a standing ovation. Oksana Chusovitina is the oldest gymnast in the Olympics and she has competed in the Olympics for 8 years. She is currently 46 years old and is finally retiring. Her story is fascinating and brings me to tears. Many years ago in 2002, her son was diagnosed with leukemia (cancer). Oksana and her family had to move to Germany for treatment for her son. She had to plead to let her represent Germany and compete as a gymnast so that she could win money and help her son get treatment. Recently, after many years her son has finally recovered and she decided that it was time to retire and spend more time with her family.
Overall, I would like to salute to all the athletes and wish them all good luck in the future Olympics!! GO HONG KONG!
